The objective of EquiCompound is to provide readers concise research, analysis, commentary, and tools applicable in the practice of long-term stock investing. The author’s focus is in finding and understanding investment opportunities in unique, best in class businesses that offer the potential for above average returns. In addition, the author enjoys studying the ongoing unprecedented global monetary and fiscal policy experiment. EquiCompound will provide some thoughts and analysis on the subject from time to time.
The Name
The name “EquiCompound” is a combination of “Equi”, a Latin root translating to horses in English, and the verb “Compound”, meant in this context to define the compounding of returns. The name symbolizes my pursuit as an investor, which is to find the “best of breed” businesses that can compound revenue, earnings, and cash flows at an above average rate over long periods of time. Finding and investing in these “best of breeds” is in some ways analogous to finding the best racehorse. Multiple characteristics about the horse (company), rider (management), other horses in the race (competitors) and racetrack (industry) culminate into the ultimate winner. In equity research and investing we are tasked with garnering an understanding around relatable characteristics.
The Author
EquiCompound is written and managed by Brandon Dietz. I’m a former Equity Analyst that worked on the buyside for about a decade. Most recently, I worked a dual role as a Senior Investment Analyst at Huffman Prairie Holdings, a long-only public/private investment firm focused on small/medium sized businesses, and as a Senior Investment Analyst at Windancer Holdings, an investment firm focused on active, high conviction investing. Prior to my role at Huffman Prairie and Windancer, I served as an Equity Analyst for the investment arm of Monroe Bank & Trust, where I operated as a generalist researching small cap stocks.
